Regular homework contributes towards a child's learning. It gives them the opportunity to work independently on a subject applying their own knowledge.

The most crucial homework we ask children to do is to read at home every day.

Children are taught to read at school, but regular practice is essential for children to become fluent readers.  Our minimum expectation all the way through school is for each child to read at home at least three times a week.  Children that do this are recognised as "Reading Stars" and receive lots of praise and rewards for this at school.

Please encourage and listen to your child read.  To ensure they are fully engaged with the text, ask them questions about the book - have a discussion, and please remember to sign their reading record.

We have provided some some useful advice when listening to your child read, click on our "Support your child with phonics" and "Support your child with reading" web pages.
