Music has a very high profile at Meanwood and as well as having a weekly class lesson with Mrs. Marsden, our music specialist, children are encouraged to take advantage of the various extra-curricular music sessions available at lunch-time and after school.
Music at Meanwood
The choir and folk group perform regularly at local chrity events, concerts and festivals and our choir has performed at The Lowry Centre and the 2002 Commenwealth Games welcoming ceremony.
All children are encouraged to start the recorder in Key Stage One. Strong links with Rochdale Music Service enable us to offer specialist tuition in brass, woodwind, strings and percussion at KS2 with visiting teachers from the music centre. Pupils are encouraged to practise and reach high standards, thus gaining confidence on playing and performing. Each year we see several children taking external music examinations.
